Inter director Piero Ausilio admits the €50m deal that brought André Onana to Manchester United in 2023 was probably the best in the club’s history: ‘He joined on a free transfer and left for an enormous fee.’
Inter director Ausilio admits Onana’s move to Manchester United in the summer of 2023 was one of the best deals he ever completed as well as one of the most profitable in the club’s history.
“Inter are proud of the Onana [deal],” he said during a podcast with Italian presenter Alessandro Cattelan (via FcInter1908).
“It depends on what we’re talking about. If it’s about a capital gain, then probably Onana [is the best deal]. He joined Inter on a free transfer and left for an enormous fee. I think it may be the highest capital gain in the club’s history. Only deals like the Ibrahimovic one get close.”
Onana moved to Inter on a free transfer from Ajax in the summer of 2022 and left San Siro after just one season, joining Manchester United for €50m.
During his time at the Stadio Meazza, Onana won one Italian Supercoppa and one Coppa Italia, and reached the Champions League Final.
During the same interview, Ausilio spoke about Inter’s transfer strategies for next summer, confirming that Denzel Dumfries is on his way to Real Madrid and insisting that Nicolò Barella is not on the market.
