Morocco defender Noussair Mazraoui is not expected to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a shoulder injury during the Atlas Lions’ 1-1 draw with Norway in a World Cup warm-up match, according to a Hesport source familiar with the situation.
Mazraoui was forced off during Sunday’s friendly against Norway, raising concerns ahead of Morocco’s opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, initial medical examinations were reassuring for the Moroccan national team’s medical and coaching staff. The source said the Manchester United defender is expected to be sidelined for no more than seven days pending further tests and his response to treatment.
The 28-year-old remains in contention to return to action and resume his role with the Atlas Lions during the tournament.
The news was less encouraging for teammate Abde Ezzalzouli. Preliminary examinations indicated that the winger suffered ligament damage to his right knee and is expected to be out for between two and three weeks.
Both players were injured during Morocco’s final warm-up match before the start of the World Cup.
Morocco opens its World Cup campaign against Brazil on June 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The Atlas Lions will then face Scotland on June 19 in Boston before concluding Group Stage play against Haiti on June 24 in Atlanta.
