Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams has revealed the steps he took to win his way back into the starting line-up after a slow start to the 2025/26 season.

The 25-year-old has been a key figure for Miguel Cardoso since the turn of the year and his performances for the club also earned him recall to the Bafana Bafana squad for the friendlies against Panama.

Addressing the media on Thursday morning at Chloorkop as they prepare for their CAF Champions League final, Adams said he had to go home and reflect and train on his own.

"I think for me it was just to focus on myself first. I didn't play last year much so I went home, reflect, trained alone so I came back. I was hoping for a chance. I got my chance and I took it with both hands. So yeah, that was it," Adams said.

The former Stellenbosch FC midfielder added that playing in a game like the CAF Champions League final plays a lot on his mind.

"Yeah, it plays a lot in my mind because this is a big one. You have to be careful. You don't want to put your team in a situation that you don't want to be in. But yeah, I think for me, if I put that behind me, so yeah," Adams concluded.

Adams will be hoping that his current form at club level could earn him a Bafana call-up for the 2026 World Cup, which coach Hugo Broos is expected to announce soon.
