Al Ahly 'Make Decision' On Cardoso Pursuit

Egyptian giants Al Ahly have reportedly decided on the possibility of appointing Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso, as the club continue their search for a new permanent manager.

The Red Devils are understood to have reached an agreement with current boss Jess Thorup to terminate his contract at the end of the current campaign.

According to Twasl News, the manager's agent requested that he receive five months' salary along with a full financial settlement agreement.

The Egyptian giants reportedly offered to pay only four months, with it being understood that the matter will be finalised after Al Ahly's Egyptian Premier League clash against Al Masry on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, it has been claimed that the Red Devils' hierarchy have opted against the idea of appointing Cardoso at the beginning of next season.

The club's chiefs are understood to believe that the Portuguese tactician is "not suited to the club's ambitions" due to his "lack of significant success" during his previous spells at Wydad Athletic Club and Esperance Sportive de Tunis.

The 53-year-old is yet to win the CAF Champions League despite reaching the final in 2024 and 2025. The Red Devils, meanwhile, have won the continental competition a record 12 times.

It is believed that the Egyptian giants are searching for a coach with "extensive experience and a strong track record."

That, however, could still change for Cardoso, who has guided Downs to this year's final, where they will face Moroccan outfit AS FAR Rabat.
