Aston Villa are pursuing the signature of Matias Soule ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Roma attacking midfielder has impressed in the Serie A this season and is seen as a bright upcoming star.

However, with a nearly £35million asking price, it could have been a struggle for Unai Emery’s side to get a deal over the line.

Nevertheless, Gazzetta on 14 May has now confirmed that Donyell Malen has officially left Villa for Roma on a permanent deal.

Now, with additional funds in the bank, Villa may be able to sign Soule this transfer window.

Breaking news on signings, departures, and contract news from the Aston Villa boardroom.

Malen was sent on loan to Roma in the winter window, with the Italian club having an option to buy.

This would be triggered if the capital club achieved European qualification, something that they have now pulled off.

This is thanks to Inter Milan winning the Coppa Italia on Wednesday, ensuring that Roma will at least be in the Europa League next season.

As a result, Villa will receive £21.7m on top of their £1.74m loan fee. On top of this, they will also get 10 per cent of any future resale rights.

Given the funds that have now been brought into the club, this surely puts Villa in a prime position to complete the signing of Soule.

The Malen sale alone gives over half the funds potentially needed to bring the 23-year-old to Villa Park.

Therefore, Emery is seemingly one step closer to bringing him in and improving the depth of his squad once more.

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Borussia Dortmund and Bournemouth are also fighting Aston Villa for Soule’s signature.

Villa are hopeful that the sales of some of their fringe players out on loan can help them beat their rivals to the attacking midfielder.

Emery is keen to strengthen his squad this summer as the club look set to return to the Champions League for the 2026-27 season.

However, it remains to be seen if Soule will be playing his football at Villa Park in the next campaign, or if another side will beat the Birmingham outfit to his signature.
