Sunday’s victory over Sekhukhune United ensured that Kaizer Chiefs secured their place in next season’s CAF Champions League, with no other team able to finish higher than them in third position on the Betway Premiership log.

Talking to the media after the game at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef said that finishing third and qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup is the minimum they could do as a team for everyone at the club.

“I think a lot of times we said that the minimum that we can do this season is to be in the top three, to play again in the CAF Confederation Cup. For one of the biggest teams in South Africa and in Africa, it’s the minimum that we can do.

“At least now we are already qualified for the next season of the Confederation Cup. Congratulations to the fans, congratulations to the board, congratulations to the technical staff and the players. It's not only our efforts, but the work of a lot of people behind the scenes,” Ben Youssef observed.

Ben Youssef then thanked everyone in the team who had contributed to the season that they had.

“If you see the performance of the keeper, the resilience of the team, if you see the fitness of the team and the players coming from out of the squad, and every time I said to them, ‘You are like a military, so you have to be ready in the game.’

“There is staff behind the fitness coach. Our analyst, our doctor, I had to say congratulations to everybody. Like I said, it's the minimum that we can do for the team…” Ben Youssef concluded.

Last season, after qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup after winning the Nedbank Cup, Chiefs went as far as the group stages, where they just failed to qualify for the quarterfinals on goal difference after finishing on the same points with Egyptian side Al Marsy.

Now, though they have already qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup, they have two games remaining in the league against AmaZulu FC and Chippa United.
