Kaizer Chiefs have detailed how Tashreeq Morris only came to get his first opportunity to play this season on Sunday in the 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United.

Morris was handed his first league minutes with just under half an hour to play and responded with the opener as Chiefs collected all three points.

Prior to Sunday, he had played just once this season, a single-minute appearance in the Carling Knockout when he went on to have his penalty saved during the shootout as the Soweto giants were knocked out by Stellenbosch FC.

From the 10 games that he played under Nasreddine Nabi last term, his only claim to a goal was an effort which television replays showed didn’t come off him for the last touch against AmaZulu FC.

"I’m always speaking about the team and not the player, Morris is one of our players," says Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef when asked about the 31-year-old.

"He has been working very hard in training sessions."

The Tunisian coach said they were waiting for the right moment to bring him on and they felt that Sunday's game was the right moment to introduce him in the team.

"And we discussed with him the importance of this game, and like I said, there are people working behind us to prepare these players, like coach Dillon (Sheppard)."

"We try to keep consistency in the team, but sometimes there is risk of injury, so we should make rotation.

"…we showed that any player that we ask to come is ready to fight for the badge, for the team, and for the fans," says Ben Youssef.
