Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have now learned their possible path at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after the official tournament draw was conducted in Zurich on Thursday, even as they remain focused on a crucial qualifying showdown against Guinea.

The Flamingos are yet to secure their place at the expanded 24-team competition, but the latest draw has provided a clearer picture of what could await them if they successfully navigate the remaining African qualifiers.

FIFA used CAF placeholders in the draw because four African representatives are still to be confirmed through the qualification series.

Nigeria, one of Africa’s strongest sides at youth level, entered the qualification campaign in the second round and were drawn to face Guinea after receiving a bye in the opening phase.

The two-legged tie is a major hurdle in their quest to reach another World Cup.

If the Flamingos overcome Guinea on aggregate, they will advance to the final round of qualifiers, where they are expected to face the winner between Republic of Benin and Sierra Leone for a place at the tournament in Morocco.

Should Nigeria progress and emerge as one of CAF’s qualified teams, they could take the CAF 1 slot, which has been drawn into Group B.

That group already includes defending champions Korea DPR, Poland, and Puerto Rico.

It presents a potentially demanding but intriguing route for the Flamingos if they complete qualification.

The 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be staged in Morocco from October 17 to November 7, with 24 nations competing across six groups.

For now, however, Nigeria’s immediate priority remains the double-header against Guinea as the Flamingos look to keep their World Cup dream alive and earn the chance to test themselves against some of the world’s best young teams.

Group A: Morocco, New Zealand, Germany, Argentina

Group B: Korea DPR, Puerto Rico, Poland, CAF 1

Group D: Japan, CAF 3, France, Venezuela

Group F: Spain, Mexico, Australia, Chile
