After Maritzburg United relocated to Durban and changed its name to Durban City, the town of Pietermaritzburg was left without a Betway Premiership club.
Now, a former Golden Arrows striker, Curtis Dos Santos, is looking to revive Betway Premiership football in Maritzburg through his team, RE United.
Dos Santos told Soccer Laduma that though his team is currently playing in the SAB Promotional League, he aims to take the club to the PSL eventually.
"We want to have another PSL team in Maritzburg, and that's why I started my own team, RE United. We are currently playing in the SAB Promotional League, but we will be fighting to get promoted to the ABC Motsepe League and then the Motsepe Foundation Championship before finally gaining promotion to the Betway Premiership.
“We are working hard, and I have other former players like Bryce Moon and Shaun Potgieter who are around here also. I know this area needs a PSL team and that's what I am working on," Dos Santos told Soccer Laduma.
KZN has four teams in the Betway Premiership with AmaZulu FC, Richards Bay FC, Golden Arrows, and Durban City already.
