Al-Nassr manager Jorge Jesus has revealed that he only accepted the job in Saudi Arabia to help Cristiano Ronaldo win trophies.

The Knights of Najd lifted the Saudi Pro League trophy on Thursday following a 4-1 victory over Damac Club in a game that saw Sadio Mane and Kingsley Coman both get on the scoresheet, while Ronaldo netted a brace.

It is the first time the Portuguese superstar has lifted the league title since arriving in the Gulf state in January 2023. According to Jesus, that was the main objective from the moment he arrived at the club.

“When I received the invitation from (Al-Nassr CEO Jose) Semedo and Cris (Cristiano Ronaldo), I only accepted this challenge to help Cris win titles in Saudi Arabia,” Jesus said, per Tribuna.

It was a must-win encounter for the Riyadh-based outfit, who would have seen rivals Al-Hilal snatch the title from them had they failed to secure all three points on the final day.

The Saudi Pro League crown also represents a significant milestone for Ronaldo, as, before Thursday, he had not won any major trophies in Saudi Arabia, having only lifted the Arab Club Champions Cup, which is not recognised as an official competition.

In fact, the Portugal captain’s last major trophy before this triumph was the Coppa Italia in 2021 during his time at Juventus.

Jesus, meanwhile, also confirmed that he will be leaving the club after helping Al-Nassr end their seven-year wait for a league title.

“For me, it’s over. It’s the last game I worked for Al-Nassr,” the manager said while speaking to Canal GOAT. “I’m leaving, that’s the point. It’s over.”

The experienced tactician then went on to outline his plans for the near future.

“I’m going to Portugal. I’m going to spend two or four days on vacation in Portugal. Then I’m thinking of going to Brazil, I’m thinking of going to Rio,” he said, before clarifying: “Not to train. I’m only going to Brazil for vacation.”
