The idea of Inter exchanging Davide Frattesi with Roma midfielder Manu Koné has been floated before and is reportedly back on the agenda this summer.
It is absolutely no secret that the Nerazzurri wanted Koné last summer and again in the January transfer window, but were always rebuffed by the Giallorossi.
At the same time, Frattesi was proposed as part of an exchange deal plus cash, but again it never quite went through.
La Gazzetta dello Sport insist the same package is on the table again, especially as Roma must register significant profits by June 30 to stick with the UEFA settlement agreement.
Roma paid €18m plus €2m in bonuses to sign Koné from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2024 and his value on the transfer market has since more than doubled to circa €50m.
That could go even higher if he has a good World Cup, having been called up by France coach Didier Deschamps for the tournament.
With Frattesi valued at €20-25m, Inter would need to add a significant cash sum on top to get the swap deal underway.
There is another reason for Roma to want Frattesi, because he is a product of their youth academy who was sold to Sassuolo in 2017 for €14.6m.
