Defender Harry Maguire confirmed through his social media accounts that he will not be part of the England national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to beIN Sports, head coach Thomas Tuchel personally informed him that he would not be included among the 26 players traveling to North America, a decision that surprised many English fans.

Maguire admitted he felt “shocked and devastated” after learning he had been left out of the squad. Although the official Three Lions roster will be announced tomorrow, the center back chose to share the news publicly ahead of time, making clear the emotional blow of missing out on a World Cup.

The defender was called up for England’s last two friendlies against Uruguay and Japan. He started and played the full 90 minutes against La Celeste, while he came off the bench in the second half versus Japan.

However, his performances reportedly did not fully convince Tuchel, who is expected to favor a more dynamic back line with greater long-term potential.

Nevertheless, the competition within the England squad proved too intense and ultimately worked against him.

According to reports from talkSPORT, Tuchel will rely on Levi Colwill of Chelsea to fill that role. The starting center backs are expected to be Ezri Konsa and Marc Guéhi, both of whom enjoyed impressive seasons.

In addition, Konsa offers versatility by also being capable of playing at right back, something the German manager considers crucial for his tactical system.
