With Bafana Bafana gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Mexican football analysts appear to have identified some of Hugo Broos' potential weak points.

South Africa and Mexico will kick off the tournament on June 11 in a repeat of the memorable 2010 FIFA World Cup opener, which ended in a 1-1 draw at the FNB Stadium.

Broos' side has made significant progress since the Belgian tactician took charge in 2021, with expectations steadily rising ahead of the global showpiece as Bafana continue to establish themselves amongst Africa's top football nations.

Bafana's squad is built around a youthful core, with Broos placing considerable trust in rising stars such as Relebohile Mofokeng, Oswin Appollis, and Lyle Foster in attack.

Meanwhile, Teboho Mokoena remains one of the coach's most reliable figures in midfield.

However, despite the quality at Broos' disposal, analysis from Mexico has reportedly identified defensive vulnerabilities that El Tri could look to exploit when the two sides meet.

The observations come after Bafana's recent international friendlies against Panama, where the two sides played to a 1-1 draw before Bafana suffered a 2-1 defeat on home soil.

"Broos' focus on youth aims to bring freshness and energy to the team, something that could be key in a demanding tournament like the World Cup," a Mexican report stated.

"Lyle Foster's experience in England is a plus that South Africa hopes to capitalise on.

"However, they will need to work on their defence if they want to have a standout performance in the tournament."

At the back, Broos is expected to choose the likes of Nkosinathi Sibisi, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Ime Okon, Khumulani Ndamane and Siyabonga Ngezana, as some have become regular selections under him.

In the full-back positions, Mamelodi Sundowns duo Aubrey Modiba and Khuliso Mudau are expected to continue playing key roles.

Broos is set to announce his squad on Wednesday, May 27, in Pretoria.
