Nuno Espirito Santo may well have gripes with the Premier League’s decisions over the officials that will decide West Ham United and Tottenham’s fates on Sunday.

The Hammers head into the final day needing a huge favour from Everton in North London, as well as three points in their own game.

Should the Toffees beat Tottenham, West Ham will stay up with victory over Leeds United at the London Stadium, but any other result will prove fatal.

The Lilywhites’ strong advantage in goal difference means that, if they were to draw, the Irons would have to beat their opponents by a margin of 12 goals to stay up.

Considering West Ham’s form has seen them score just two goals in their last three games, they will likely leave their hopes with an Everton win.

Team news, line-ups, expert previews and tactical analysis for every West Ham fixture.

Michael Oliver took charge of Everton’s clash with Manchester City earlier this month, in a game that was memorable for several reasons.

The Toffees had been 1-0 down before turning the game on its head and going 3-1 up, before late goals from Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku saw the captivating occasion end 3-3.

Everton’s efforts effectively derailed Man City’s title hopes, placing the Premier League back in Arsenal’s hands and ultimately allowing their former player, Mikel Arteta, to celebrate his first-ever league title as a manager.

There was no celebrating from David Moyes, however, after his side were denied a clear penalty and a chance to go 4-2 ahead.

Bernardo Silva had grabbed Merlin Rohl as a corner was swung in, with the Man City captain grabbing and dragging his man to the floor.

Oliver somehow missed the incident, and VAR inexplicably chose not to get involved – a decision that was later ruled a mistake by the key match incident panel.

“The one against Manchester City I went to see Michael Oliver after the game, calmly, and I said I genuinely think you’ve missed something here,” Moyes later said.

“I’m finding it very hard to accept a referee, two linesman, a fourth official, VAR, that none of them would have picked up on it, and I still feel that way. How have they not seen it?

“Sometimes the referee might not, but with the other people around them, you’d hope they’d get the right result, and then you add in VAR as well.”

Nuno will likely have a problem with the Premier League’s decision to allow Anthony Taylor to oversee West Ham’s game, too.

The referee oversaw Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 loss at Everton in 2024, and received huge criticism after failing to award the visitors a penalty in three highly controversial moments.

Speaking after the game, Nuno said: “Three of them. It’s a very poor decision from Anthony Taylor and VAR. It’s happening to us over and over again.

“It’s difficult for us to tell the players to ignore it and keep on going. It’s very clear. Poor decisions.”

The West Ham manager will hope similar scenes do not repeat themselves on Sunday, with the events in both games set to be highly scrutinised.
