Mamelodi Sundowns are set to complete one of the most awkward finishes to the season, playing their last Betway Premiership match a week-and-a-half before second-placed Orlando Pirates play their final match.

This has raised questions as to how the PSL plan to hand over the trophy if Sundowns go on to win the Premiership title, but they have to first win tonight to have any hope of getting their hands on a ninth consecutive championship title.

Sundowns face TS Galaxy in their third game in a period of six days, after playing against Kaizer Chiefs and Siwelele FC in the last few days. Victory over Galaxy would put Sundowns six points ahead of Pirates, who will have two matches in hand.

Experienced goalkeeper Denis Onyango has been part of league title battles long enough to know anything can happen.

As things stand, Pirates are in a better position to win the title, but Onyango believes anything could still happen, which is why Sundowns need to get the job done against Galaxy in Mbombela.

"As senior players, we have to push the boys because every game counts for the club, regardless of how difficult it is. We have to give our best. Every game is a final, and as we are looking forward to the Champions League final, we need to end the season on a high, regardless of what's happening around us in the league," Onyango told the Sundowns media department.

"We have to stay positive and believe it can be done. Of course, that's the thinking from the coaching staff and players in general. We can't take any game for granted. We have to give our best in every game and see how far we can go. We can't guarantee that the other people will win. We just have to stay focused and win our games.

"For the Sundowns supporters, they must keep believing because we've done it before. I think there is a season where we won it at the death in Free State, and we won it again in the bubble.

"They must just believe it's possible, regardless of it not being in our hands. We just need to win our last game and hope things turn around. For me, if they keep pushing us, we also have the belief that things can turn our way."

Goal difference will have a big say at the end, so Sundowns will be looking to secure a big win against the Rockets to give themselves hope. It will also require them to perform better at the back, after struggling against in the 7-4 victory over Siwelele on Saturday evening.
