Lazio have released a video with Pedro’s farewell message to the club and will wear a special edition patch on their jersey in his final game.

The Spain international will celebrate his 39th birthday in July and becomes a free agent, but it is by no means yet certain if he will hang up his boots this summer.

“Today is a very sad day for me, because I say goodbye to this journey and the splendid Lazio family,” read Pedro in the official video.

“I want to thank all the fans, the players, the coaches and the whole club, dependents and collaborators included, for allowing me to be part of the glorious history of this club.

“It’s true that I did not bring trophies to what I consider to be a marvellous home, but I always defended the jersey with courage, humility, ambition and passion, along with my teammates. I am sure that soon you will celebrate something important with these great men and players.

“Every time I set foot onto the pitch, I looked up and proudly admired our people. Every emotion I experienced, every unforgettable goal, every song that was sung together, are moments that will remain etched in my memory.

“Against Pisa it will be my final game in this jersey, so I expect you all at the stadium and hope you can be by my side. However, I also understand that this year has been difficult and complicated for everyone, so I have the utmost respect for your decision.

“It was a real honour to wear this shirt and the club logo on my chest, I wish you all the best, my Lazio family, I will carry you forever in my heart.

“One of you, forever Forza Lazio!”

The reference to the fans is because the ultras have for months been boycotting the home matches in protest at President Claudio Lotito’s handling of the club.

They suspended it only for the Coppa Italia Final against Inter, but look set to abandon the stands again this weekend.

Lazio players will wear a special patch on the jersey against Pisa depicting Pedro.

He came up through the Barcelona youth academy and became a start for the Blaugrana, completing a transfer to Chelsea in 2015.

Pedro came to Italy for Roma at first in 2010, then a year later was allowed to cross the city to their bitter rivals Lazio, again free of charge.

It was a decision the Giallorossi would regret, especially as he flourished there with 38 goals and 19 assists in 208 competitive matches, most famously in the 3-2 Derby della Capitale victory against Roma in September 2021.
