Sandro Tonali is set to command an £80million fee this summer as Arsenal continue to monitor his availability ahead of a possible Newcastle United exit.
Tonali’s future at St James’ Park is uncertain going into the summer after Newcastle’s disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
The 26-year-old has not been able to help his side into European contention this season, with several top Premier League sides lining up a move for his services in the coming months.
Arsenal are one of those interested clubs, and as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, they will have to stump up at least £80m for Tonali this summer.
Arsenal’s transfer plans will be dictated by a vital few upcoming weeks, with Premier League and Champions League glory at their fingertips.
Breaking news on deals in progress, signings, departures, and contract news from the Emirates boardroom.
Newcastle currently have no plans to lose Tonali, with other key stars, such as Anthony Gordon, more likely to leave St James’ Park before he does.
They remain in a strong position to demand a hefty fee, despite likely missing out on European football for next season, especially with three years left on his current contract.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “(Newcastle will) be looking for £80 million plus for Sandro Tonali, maybe even more, looking at some of the other midfielders that have moved in the Premier League in recent seasons.
“They might have to sell a couple of their big stars just to help allow Eddie Howe to spend in the summer window, and Tonali, no doubt, will be a player of huge interest to a number of clubs.
“There’s been talk of interest from Arsenal, and we all know that there is going to be interest from clubs in his native Italy as well, but they will struggle to afford to sign him right now.”
White has filled in well at right-back for Arsenal in the last few months, but his season has been curtailed early by a knee injury in the last week.
The England defender is not set to require surgery on his issue and should be back fit for pre-season, but may have already played his last game in an Arsenal shirt.
Sources have revealed to Football Insider that White is set to hold talks with Mikel Arteta over his future this summer, with Everton reportedly interested in signing him.
It is unclear if the Gunners boss will give him assurances over playing time after his latest injury, meaning the Toffees could be in line to snap him up.
