Roma confident about Dybala’s extension despite major pay cut

Paulo Dybala is reportedly open to signing a contract extension with Roma, even if the new agreement includes a major pay cut.

Roma have begun talks with Dybala’s agent over a new contract for the Argentine.

Dybala, 32, is already available as a free agent as his current deal runs out in June.

There was a meeting between club director Frederic Massara and Dybala’s agent, Carlos Novel, on Thursday, and according to Gazzetta, the player’s final decision will probably be made after Sunday’s Serie A match against Lazio.

Dybala currently earns €8.5m per season, including add-ons, but the new deal at the Stadio Olimpico would only be worth a maximum of €2.5m per season plus bonuses.

According to the report, Dybala and Roma are discussing a one-year deal extension, which may include an option for a further campaign.

Dybala is said to be open to staying at Roma for one more season despite the big pay cut.

The Argentine is, in fact, grateful for the club’s support, especially during his time on the sidelines due to recurring injuries. He is also happy to remain in the capital to better manage his private life, given that his first daughter was born in March.

Naturally, Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini is pushing for Dybala’s extension, and the club hopes that talks with the striker’s agent will end positively.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Roma have also begun negotiations with Lorenzo Pellegrini and Zeki Celik, whose contracts expire in June.
