'We hope it’s not horrible news': Lions confirm star flanker set for sideline stint
The Lions are sweating on the fitness of Springbok flanker Ruan Venter after he suffered a knee injury in their 31-7 URC defeat to Leinster.
Lions coach Ivan van Rooyen has confirmed that Springbok flanker Ruan Venter is back in South Africa to have scans for a knee injury sustained in their 31-7 United Rugby Championship loss to Leinster over the weekend.
Venter, who has been a star performer for the franchise at both flank and lock this season, was forced to leave the field in the fourth minute of the clash.

Speaking after the match, Van Rooyen said they aren’t sure of the extent of the injury at this point.
“Unfortunately, Ruan flew back last night to get scans on his knee,” Van Rooyen confirmed.
“We hope it’s not horrible news, but he is in quite a bit of discomfort and pain.
“We’re waiting to see the results of the scan.
The rest [of the injuries] at this stage are just bumps and bruises, luckily there’s nothing major otherwise,” Van Rooyen confirmed.
