Orlando Pirates winger Oswin Appollis has opened up on the side’s victory over the weekend, which keeps the Soweto giants in contention for a first league title in more than a decade.

The Buccaneers kept their title hopes alive with a 3-0 win over Magesi FC at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, thanks to goals from Patrick Maswanganyi, Kamogelo Sebelebele, and Oswin Appollis.

It is a result that kept the side three points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with a game in hand.

For Appollis, who is also widely considered a candidate for the PSL Footballer of the Season accolade, it was a ninth goal of the season.

Speaking to the club’s media afte the match, the speedy winger revealed that they had intended to score more than the three goals they conjured up on the night.

“It was a very important three points for us today,” declared the former Polokwane City man.

“The boys did well, and I’m happy with the overall performance from the squad. Even the impact players who came on gave us more energy and helped the team a lot.

"We wanted to score more goals, but we’ll take the 3-0 win and focus on the next game.

"All thanks to my teammates for sharing the ball with me, and I try to do the same for them. It’s a team effort. That’s why we have so many players contributing in the squad.

Notably, the result also marked a record 19th clean sheet for goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, who broke the previous PSL record of 18 clean sheets held by Ronwen Williams.
