Andoni Iraola has clear Cody Gakpo plan as Liverpool prepare for 'big offer'
Liverpool will only consider selling winger Cody Gakpo this summer if a "big offer" comes in, sources have told Football Insider.
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a surprise move for the Dutchman in recent days, but the Reds are not "actively" looking to sell him.
The Anfield outfit are short of attacking options at the moment, and will only open the door to an exit if a truly lucrative bid came in.
Andoni Iraola is keen to give Gakpo the chance to shine next term, with a place on the wing open after Mohamed Salah's departure,
Tottenham's interest in the 27-year-old remains in the early stages, and it is currently unclear whether they will firm it up with an offer.
Any attempts to secure a deal for Gakpo look set to be met with Liverpool resistance, unless they truly make it worth their while.
Liverpool are set for a summer of major change as they transition away from the Arne Slot era.
They have also had a pair of major departures in the squad in Salah and Andy Robertson, which has left the door open for others to step up and shine.
Iraola's arrival in the dugout is expected to give every player the chance to impress in the coming months, and Gakpo will already have his eye on bigger responsibility.
He notched nine goals and six assists in all competitions last term, having previously tallied 24 goal involvements the year before.
The wideman will be hoping that he can hit those levels again and establish himself as Iraola's go-to man in attack.
Hugo Ekitike's long-term injury also means that there is likely to be an opening in the striker role, where Gakpo has regularly filled in of late.
Football Insider revealed last week that Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi is a "big fan" of Gakpo and the quality that he provides.
The North London outfit have handed greater control to the Italian this summer after he kept them in the Premier League.
De Zerbi is already having a bigger say in the Lilywhites' transfer business than some of his predecessors, which could see a move for Gakpo rise up their list of priorities.
Tottenham are expected to have a big summer, and they have already raided Liverpool once for Robertson; they could be about to do it again for Gakpo.
