Juventus face fresh competition for the signing of Bernardo Silva, as the Manchester City midfielder is now targeted by Atletico Madrid as a free agent.
He has now confirmed that this is his final season at the Etihad after nine years with the club, as his contract will expire on June 30 and is not going to be renewed.
The player turns 32 in August, so is far from at the end of his career, and announced he is looking for a new challenge, as well as to move closer to his family in Portugal.
That all makes it a tricky situation for Juventus, who had until recently been the absolute favourites for his signature.
If they fail to qualify for the Champions League, it will make them a less appetising prospect, not to mention more difficult to justify his wages in Turin.
There were reports today that his agent offered Bernardo Silva to both Real Madrid and Barcelona, who were not particularly interested.
However, now Marca claim that Atletico Madrid have joined the race and are ready to make a proposal to the former AS Monaco and Benfica player.
Diego Simeone’s club would represent a huge draw for Bernardo Silva, and stiff competition for Juventus.
Atleti had agreed personal terms with Atalanta midfielder Ederson, but Manchester United dived in to match those figures, along with a higher transfer fee to his club.
