According to Italian reports, Milan offered Rafael Leao to Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona, but none of the clubs seem particularly ready to spend big money for him.
The forward could well be coming to the end of his time at San Siro, because his contract only runs to June 2028 and there seems to be no sign of an extension on the horizon.
Considering the situation, this summer is the last chance to get a significant transfer fee, before the risk kicks in of losing him as a free agent.
While Leao has a release clause in his contract at a reported €120m, Milan would at this stage be content to pocket €80-90m for the inconsistent talent.
However, finding a club willing to pay that fee, and which Leao would be ready to join, might be tricky.
Sportitalia claim that the Rossoneri and his agent tried to shop him around to various clubs who had shown an interest in the past, such as Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona.
It did not go well, as none of them seemed prepared to discuss in deeper detail.
Fenerbahce and Galatasaray have been mentioned as potential clubs, along with those in Saudi Arabia, but getting Leao to agree for those moves is another matter.
The Portugal international turns 27 next month and has reached the point of his career where he is no longer a player with potential, but ought to be the finished article.
He still managed a decent enough tally of 10 goals and three assists in 30 competitive games this season, but too often seemed disinterested or frustrated with coach Max Allegri.
Leao does not fit into the 3-5-2 formation, so has been used as a centre-forward instead, limiting his capabilities.
Milan are hoping he has a good World Cup with Portugal to bump up his price tag and get clubs ready to sign him.
