Chaine Targets World Cup Dream
Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine hopes his recent form will prove enough as he sets his sights on making Bafana coach, Hugo Broos’ final World Cup squad.
Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine is one of four shot-stoppers in Hugo Broos’ preliminary Bafana Bafana squad ahead of Wednesday’s final selection, and despite missing the recent friendly matches against Panama, he remains hopeful of earning a place in the FIFA World Cup squad.
Addressing the media shortly after claiming the Betway Premiership title after defeating Orbit College 2-0 on Saturday, the Pirates shot-stopper confessed that, as with any other footballer, he has a strong desire to play at a World Cup. However, he admits that his fate ultimately lies in the hands of coach Hugo Broos.

“It's every player's dream to represent their country at the World Cup. The most important thing is to control what I could. Play every day like it’s my last game for the Pirates. What I can control is the amount of saves I have to make, the amount of crosses I collect, and my communication with everyone around me. The rest is to leave it to the coach,” Chaine observed.
After being part of AFCON 2025 in Morocco, the former Chippa United goalkeeper was dropped by coach Hugo Broos in the country's two friendly games against Panama, where Sekhukhune United goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner was included in the team, together with the regular Rowen Williams and Ricardo Goss.
This time around, Chaine is part of the four goalkeepers in the preliminary squad with the others being Rowen Williams, Ricardo Goss and Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen.
