With a statement on the official website, Romanian Superliga side Universitatea Cluj has announced the signing of Nigerian defender Friday Adams, confirming the arrival of the versatile 23-year-old ahead of the new season as the club continues to strengthen its squad.
Adams joins Universitatea Cluj on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with FC Botoșani, where he spent three seasons and established himself as a dependable figure in Romanian football.
The move also formalises an agreement that had been reached months earlier, allowing the player to complete his switch once he became a free agent.
Born in Kaduna, Nigeria, on November 23, 2002, Adams began his football journey at Ikon Allah Kaduna academy before moving to FDC Vista, where his development caught the attention of European scouts.
His first senior breakthrough came with FC Noah in Armenia, where he made 35 appearances, scoring two goals and registering one assist during a productive spell that showcased his potential in defensive and transitional roles.
In 2023, he made the switch to Romania, signing for FC Botoșani, where he quickly adapted to the demands of the Superliga.
Across his time at the club, Adams accumulated over 80 appearances in all competitions, contributing both defensively and in attacking phases from wide positions.
Known for his energy, tactical discipline and ability to operate as both a right-back and midfielder, Adams developed a reputation as a reliable and adaptable squad option.
His consistency and versatility made him a valuable asset in different tactical systems.
At Universitatea Cluj, the Nigerian defender is expected to add depth and competition on the right side while offering flexibility across defensive and midfield roles.
