Celtic interim manager Martin O'Neill has lauded Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho for his outstanding recent displays, describing the forward as a 'cult hero' after his key role in the club's title-winning campaign.

Iheanacho has emerged as one of Celtic’s most influential players during the decisive stages of the title race.

The Super Eagles forward delivered crucial late goals against Hibernian and Motherwell to keep Celtic firmly in contention before eventually sealing the league crown.

Speaking on the striker’s impact, O’Neill commended Iheanacho’s growing importance within the squad and the strong connection he has built with the supporters through his match-winning performances.

"Kelechi Iheanacho has also become a cult hero,” he said via Glasgow Times. "If you can do that over four games, then brilliant."

Despite enduring an injury-hit campaign, the former Leicester City striker has rediscovered top form in recent weeks.

Overall, Kelechi Iheanacho has registered eight goals and one assist in 23 appearances across all competitions.

The Nigerian forward will be eager to maintain his fine run of form when Celtic face Dunfermline Athletic at Hampden Park in the Scottish Cup final.
