Paulo Dybala has cast fresh doubt over his Roma future, speaking to ESPN upon his arrival in Cordoba with comments that contradicted the widely held belief that his contract renewal was close to being finalised.
The Argentine has been one of Roma’s most influential players since arriving on a free transfer, and a new deal had appeared to be little more than a formality in recent weeks.
His comments to the Argentine press, via Gazzetta, however, suggest the situation may be considerably more complicated than previously understood, and will not have gone unnoticed at Trigoria just as Roma finalise their squad planning for a Champions League return.
“We will see what happens,” Dybala said.
“These days every team is an option, even Instituto, so that people don’t get angry. I am still a Roma player until the end of the month, so out of respect for the club I will not talk about my future.”
“However, I have not yet decided. I don’t know if something will happen, so I cannot say anything that might not happen. Everything is possible, in football you never know.”
Asked specifically about a return to Boca Juniors, Dybala did not close the door. “We will see,” he said.
