Morocco will face a determined Haiti side on Wednesday evening as the Caribbean nation looks to conclude its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a positive result despite already being eliminated from the tournament.
Haiti, among the first teams to exit the competition, enter their final Group C fixture with no chance of advancing to the knockout rounds. However, the Haitian Football Federation has framed the encounter as a “final battle,” emphasizing the importance of finishing the tournament with pride and a competitive performance against one of the world’s top-ranked teams.
The match will be played at Atlanta Stadium at 11 p.m. Morocco time (GMT+1), with Morocco aiming to secure first place in the group and strengthen its position ahead of the knockout stage.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Haiti head coach Sébastien Migné stressed that his players remain fully motivated despite their elimination.
“The qualification itself represented a great deal of hope for the Haitian people,” Migné said. “We have no right to give up.”
The French coach acknowledged the challenge awaiting his team against a Moroccan side that has established itself among the world’s elite in recent years.
Migné described the Atlas Lions as a high-level team, highlighting Morocco’s status as Africa Cup of Nations champions, sixth in the FIFA rankings, and semifinalists at the 2022 World Cup.
“It is an incredible opportunity for us to face this type of opponent in what will undoubtedly be a packed stadium,” he said.
The Haitian manager also praised the tactical maturity and balance displayed by Morocco under head coach Mohamed Ouahbi, noting that the Atlas Lions have become an increasingly difficult side to break down.
He singled out several Moroccan players for special praise, including captain and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi and attacking midfielder Brahim Díaz, while also highlighting the contributions of Issa Diop and young midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi.
Migné further emphasized the importance of Morocco’s goalkeeping strength, pointing to Yassine Bounou as one of the team’s key assets.
“Having a goalkeeper of that quality can take a team very far in a tournament,” he said.
Morocco enters the match level on four points with Brazil at the top of Group C after a 1-1 draw against the South Americans and a 1-0 victory over Scotland. A win against Haiti could secure top spot, depending on the outcome of Brazil’s match against Scotland.
While Haiti’s World Cup journey will end after Wednesday’s fixture regardless of the result, Migné’s comments suggest his side intends to make life difficult for Morocco and leave the tournament with a performance worthy of the occasion.
