There is good and bad news on Roma’s pursuit of Mason Greenwood, as while L’Equipe report he agreed personal terms with Fenerbahce, the club won’t pay more than €30m plus add-ons to Olympique Marseille.
Gian Piero Gasperini is convinced that Greenwood represents the ideal wide player to fit into his 3-4-3 formation, despite the costs and the growing unrest from fans who don’t want him due to his past off the field behaviour.
L’Equipe have given an update on the situation this evening, which contains both some good news for Roma, and some bad.
They report that Fenerbahce have now agreed personal terms with Greenwood’s entourage, offering a lucrative salary package that the Giallorossi would struggle to compete with.
At the same time, Fenerbahce are holding back on the transfer fee, seemingly not prepared to bid more than €30m plus add-ons.
That is significantly lower than the €50m that Olympique Marseille are asking for, and their determination is also forced by the fact Manchester United are owed 40 per cent of the sale.
It all gives Roma time and space to push their way back into the lead for Greenwood, but they are forced to make sales of their own before June 30 to balance the books.
Matias Soulé is on the way out and not part of Gasperini’s plans, but finding a buyer for the Argentine is proving to be difficult.
