Everton's Guela Doue pursuit explained as eye-catching stats emerge from World Cup display
Everton are reportedly interested in a move for Strasbourg right-back Guela Doue this summer as they look to strengthen at the back.
Seamus Coleman has left the club on a free transfer and Nathan Patterson could yet depart in the coming months, having suffered from a string of injuries.
Jake O'Brien has proved a reliable option at right-back, but the 25-year-old can also provide valuable support at centre-back if he is freed up by another arrival.
Doue, the 23-year-old brother of PSG star Desire, has emerged among Everton's choices for the right-back position, and he was in action on Monday as the Ivory Coast narrowly beat Ecuador 1-0 at the World Cup.
Amad Diallo's 90th-minute winner secured the three points for Emerese Fae's team, who have given themselves a great chance of progressing.
Doue featured almost throughout the entire 90 minutes, and left the pitch having given a great impression.

Doue is under contract at Strasbourg until 2029, having joined the French side from Stade Rennais in 2024.
Similarly to O'Brien, he is a defensive right-back and made a number of appearances in the centre of defence this season.
The Ivorian is far more adept when going forward, however, and provided six assists this season.

That ability to drive up the pitch was on show during Monday's game, with Doue creating two chances for his teammates, winning two free-kicks and firing in an accurate cross.
More than anything, however, it was his defensive work which really stood out.
Doue made a tackle, three clearances, six recoveries and won an impressive seven duels in his time on the pitch.
Privately, Everton will be hoping to see the Ivory Coast's World Cup campaign come to an end as quickly as possible.
The African side will play Germany next before taking on Curacao, with second place in Group E well up for grabs.

More strong performances from Doue could attract suitors to rival Everton, and the worst scenario would see Chelsea turn their attentions to the right-back.
The Blues would likely need to sell one of Malo Gusto or Josh Acheampong before making a move, but their shared ownership with Strasbourg would immediately make them favourites if they decided to get involved.
