Manchester United’s new commercial deals this summer will all be down to Michael Carrick thanks to Champions League qualification.

That is the view of former Everton chief Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, as Man United close in on a new agreement with Betway.

The betting firm are expected to sign a deal to become Man United’s new training kit sponsor, which could be worth up to £18million a season.

It comes after Man United’s positive second half of the season which saw them qualify for next season’s Champions League, with Carrick now expected to become manager on a permanent basis.

Man United’s revenue will increase next season with more matches to be held at Old Trafford, and more sponsorship deals expected to be agreed.

Inside the transfer budget, player wages, Ineos investment, and the latest Old Trafford redevelopment news.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that sponsors will be more attracted to Man United thanks to the greater visibility that being in Europe provides.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness though states that Ratcliffe can take no credit for their success.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “For the sponsors, it’s all about visibility, and with United being in Europe again, that’s certainly going to help.

“There’s going to be bonuses with sponsorships about getting into Europe, so the whole thing will help. I just don’t want to see Ratcliffe take any credit for this.

“Michael Carrick is the one that deserves credit, because this has happened by accident. Everybody seems to forget the whole Ruben Amorim experiment, which was all completely down to Ratcliffe and Omar Berrada. So let’s not forget that, and they’ve got lucky this season.

“It could so easily have gone the other way, and they would not be in Europe, but they’re there comfortably. The team is back playing again and Carrick’s got them moving.”

The future of Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford is a situation that Carrick needs to get resolved this summer.

Former chief scout at the Red Devils Mick Brown told Football Insider that Man United should not accept a fee less than £26m for Rashford.

Barcelona are believed to want to reduce that fee in order to agree a deal, but Man United are currently remaining firm in their stance.

Rashford has no desire to be reintegrated back into the Man United squad, and the 28-year-old may need to explore other options on the market, including Tottenham who have shown interest.
