Harvey Elliott could leave Liverpool in a deal worth around £25million once the summer transfer window opens.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the 23-year-old’s situation with Aston Villa has been a “mess”.
Elliott joined Unai Emery’s side on loan from Liverpool last summer after falling out of favour at Anfield in the previous campaign.
An obligation-to-buy clause was included in the deal, meaning Villa would have to pay £35m to make the move permanent if he made 10 appearances this season.
However, Elliott is set to return to Liverpool after featuring on just nine occasions during his time at Villa Park.
Breaking news on deals in progress, latest signings, departures, and contract news from the Anfield boardroom.
Emery issued a public apology to Elliott last week after he’s largely been frozen out at Villa over the past nine months.
The midfielder has started just three matches for the West Midlands giants this season, with his only goal coming in the Carabao Cup against Brentford in September.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson discussed Elliott’s transfer value as he prepares to return to Liverpool this summer, hinting that a newly-promoted club like Coventry or Ipswich could look to sign him.
“With so many of these players now, it becomes a lot about age,” said Borson.
“He’s only 23, so I doubt it’ll have that much of an impact. It feels like £25m is achievable. He was only going for £35m anyway, so somebody will take him for £25m.
“Maybe a promoted team or a lower half of the table team, £25m feels like it’s worth a go for him. But it’s been a mess really.”
Recruitment expert Mick Brown told Football Insider Leeds United are interested in signing Elliott from Liverpool this summer, with his contract set to expire at Anfield in June 2027.
The Surrey-born star is not expected to be part of Reds manager Arne Slot’s plans next season and will be allowed to leave permanently should the right offer arrive.

Leeds could offer Elliott the chance to remain in the Premier League after securing their survival for another campaign.
Meanwhile, the midfielder has plenty of experience to offer Daniel Farke’s side, having featured 99 times in the top flight, where he’s registered five goals and 13 assists.
