Pedro Neto believes Portugal can head into the 2026 FIFA World Cup with confidence after their 2-1 international friendly victory over Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Completesports.com reports.
Roberto Martinez’s men delivered an impressive display in the encounter played at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria on Wednesday night.
Neto opened the scoring for the hosts in the 23rd minute, netting his first goal for club and country in four months.
Nigeria fought back before the break, with Sevilla striker Akor Adams restoring parity for the Super Eagles.
However, substitute Francisco Conceição struck the winner 15 minutes from time to hand Portugal a deserved victory.

Reflecting on the triumph over Nigeria and Portugal’s previous outing against Chile, Neto expressed satisfaction with the team’s recent performances and optimism ahead of the World Cup.
“We come away with good feelings, two games, two wins. That’s what we wanted. We dealt with our processes, things to improve. We are focused on what’s coming to make the dream come true. God willing, we will succeed,” Neto was quoted by O Jogo.
“Without a doubt. These games serve to assimilate ideas. In the Mexico training camp, some players were missing; we hadn’t been together for a long time. But we will be prepared.”
The Chelsea winger also reflected on his stunning opener, a well-taken finish after an incisive assist from Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot.
“I found myself in an area that isn’t my favorite, but it has to be that way. I’m very happy to help the team,” added Neto.
