Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Morgan Gould has lifted the lid on the "resilient" faith of Tashreeq Morris, after he scored on his first league match following a period of almost the whole season without playing.

Speculation was already rife, and the writing was also almost on the wall that Morris' future seemed to lie elsewhere, ahead of the 2026/27 season, after he was consistently overlooked at Chiefs.

The 31-year-old was not getting a look-in, since Amakhosi signed the likes of Flavio Silva and Khanyisa Mayo and did not even get a chance when new arrivals such as Etiosa Ighodaro were sidelined through injury.

The former SuperSport United striker got his first proper chance since the start of the campaign in a 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United. He came off the bench for the last 30-odd minutes, and he broke the deadlock with four minutes to go, before Mfundo Vilakazi sealed the three points and CAF Confederation Cup qualification with the second goal in stoppages.

Gould has revealed that Morris owes his change of fortunes to a resilient faith, unbelievable patience and dedication to the game.

“There was a time I was still a coach at my former team, a DDC coach (Sekhukhune United) and he (Morris) got sanctioned to go train with us (in the DDC). He spent seven months of resilient training, hard work, and he would never miss a day,” Gould said on Kaizer Chiefs Radio.

“And you know, if any youngster would take five percent of how true to his faith, he is and how true he is to the game, I think they would achieve phenomenal results.

“You know how long seven months is, without kicking a ball and he goes on to SuperSport (United), where he scores a couple of goals. Then he moves where, obviously, for him it was a childhood dream to play for the biggest teams in the country, and he still goes through another patch where he doesn't play the whole year, and he gets one game and scores a goal,” Gould marvelled.
