Rangers fullback Chibueze Oputa has expressed his delight after earning his maiden invitation to the Super Eagles ahead of the 2026 Unity Cup tournament scheduled to take place in London later this month.
Oputa has been one of the standout performers for Rangers in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this season, with his impressive displays catching the attention of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle.
His consistent performances earned him a place in the 27-man squad for the four-nation tournament.
The defender has played a key role in Rangers' impressive campaign, helping the Flying Antelopes maintain one of the best defensive records in the league with just 26 goals conceded while pushing strongly to clinch the league title.
Reacting to the invitation on his X account, the highly-rated right-back expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Football Federation and vowed to make the country proud during the tournament.
"Thank you to the Nigeria Football Federation for the opportunity. Forever grateful. Time to make the country proud ," Oputa wrote on social media.
Oputa will be hoping to earn his senior debut for the national team when the four-nation tournament kicks off in May.
Nigeria will compete against Zimbabwe, India, and Jamaica in London. The Super Eagles are set to face Zimbabwe in the first semifinal on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at The Valley, Charlton.
A victory for Nigeria will secure a place in the final, where they would meet the winner of the second semifinal between India and Jamaica.
