Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi praised his players’ performance after their 1-0 victory over Scotland on Friday, saying the result was a deserved reward for the effort displayed throughout the World Cup group-stage encounter.
Speaking after the match, Ouahbi said Morocco had been the better side for most of the contest, despite failing to convert several opportunities that could have secured a more comfortable victory and eased late pressure.
The Moroccan coach said his staff had anticipated a difficult challenge against a team known for its physical approach and tactical discipline. He credited his players with limiting Scotland’s attacking threat while maintaining control of the game and continuing to search for a second goal.
Although Morocco scored only once, Ouahbi dismissed concerns over the missed chances, emphasizing that the most important objective in a World Cup match is securing the result.
“In tournaments like the World Cup, matches are often decided by small details,” he said, stressing that collecting all three points was what mattered most.
Ouahbi also praised the composure shown by his squad in the closing stages of the game. Scotland increased the pressure late on, relying on long balls and direct attacks in an attempt to find an equalizer, but Morocco’s defense remained organized and focused until the final whistle.
The coach highlighted the character and resilience displayed by his players during difficult moments, describing it as a positive sign ahead of the team’s upcoming challenges.
According to Ouahbi, the way Morocco managed different phases of the match reflects the growing maturity of the squad and its ability to adapt to varying scenarios during major international tournaments.
The victory moved Morocco to the top of Group C with four points and strengthened its chances of reaching the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
