Damien Comolli is set to leave Juventus after just one year, with a extraordinary board meeting called for Friday 12 June to officially confirm his departure, and the botched pursuit of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson identified as the moment that fatally undermined his relationship with Luciano Spalletti.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, the Alisson saga proved decisive. Spalletti had been guaranteed the Brazilian would arrive and personally invested time in convincing the goalkeeper to make the move, only for the approach to be made too late and without the necessary groundwork having been laid with Liverpool.

From that point, trust between coach and CEO broke down irreparably, with a series of subsequent transfer pursuits also ending in failure.

Comolli had joined Juventus in June 2025 as Director General before being elevated to CEO, replacing Maurizio Scanavino.

His tenure ends after a season in which the club failed to qualify for the Champions League, a financial and sporting blow that made his position untenable.

Exor have moved swiftly, appointing Giovanni Carnevali as his successor.

The Sassuolo CEO, who has held that role since 2014, brings considerable experience of building competitive squads on modest budgets.
