Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has described his memorable winning goal against Liverpool during the 2022-2023 season as one he will cherish forever.

The 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup winner spent six years on the books of Liverpool but never made an official appearance for the Premier League giants before sealing a permanent move to Union Berlin.

At the time, Awoniyi had not yet earned a senior cap for the Super Eagles, a situation that prevented him from securing the work permit required to play in the Premier League.

As a Liverpool player, he was loaned out to six different clubs, including FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Royal Excel Mouscron, Racing Genk, Mainz 05 and Union Berlin,

On matchday 13 of the 2022-2023 Premier League season, Forest beat Liverpool 1-0 at the City Ground, with Awoniyi netting the game-winning goal in the 55th minute when he reacted quickest to slot home the rebound after his initial effort had come back off the post.

Awoniyi admitted that the goal against Liverpool remains one of the standout moments of his career.

"Nottingham Forest 1-0 against Liverpool on October 22, 2022. Scoring against them is a bit of mixed feeling," he said to Nottingham Forest's YouTube channel.

"Unfortunately, I didn't get to play for them, but scoring for Forest against them, and looking at how much we were looking for the points at that time was something I will never forget as well."

Awoniyi has been impressive in recent weeks, registering five goal involvements (3 goals, 2 assists) in his last five Premier League appearances.
