Anthony Gordon may have been influenced by Harry Kane as his move to Bayern Munich from Newcastle United looks to be edging closer.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Gordon agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich.

The 25-year-old has been linked with both Liverpool and Arsenal ahead of the summer window, but it looks like Bayern Munich have swooped in to secure his signature.

Newcastle could demand up to £75million to sanction the sale of Gordon, who has scored six times for the Magpies this season.

Amid Newcastle’s on-pitch struggles, Eddie Howe is expected to rebuild his squad this summer, with Gordon not expected to be the only star to leave Tyneside.

🔄 Newcastle Transfer Update 🔄

Breaking news on deals in progress, signings, departures, and contract news from the Newcastle United boardroom.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Gordon’s move to Germany will be happening.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks it is better for Newcastle that the club do business with Bayern Munich, and do not strengthen a Premier League rival.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Gordon’s going to be moving across to Germany.

“He’s seen the success Harry Kane’s had over there. That’s something in his mind, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Kane has spoken to him on England camps.

“It would be a good move for Gordon, and I think he’ll do well in Germany. It’s better for him than coming back to Liverpool, which is where he was favourite to come back to.

“So that will probably get done. It’d be good for Newcastle, because they’ll get a decent price for Gordon. That’s the sort of club that would pay it, and they’re better off not having him go to a competitor as well.

“I’ve got to say his time at Newcastle to me has been disappointing overall, and a move to Germany is probably the right solution for all parties.”

Newcastle have their doubts over Nick Pope heading into next season, and with Aaron Ramsdale’s loan spell set to expire, the club believe that signing a new goalkeeper is a top priority this summer.

Howe has rotated the two goalkeepers throughout the campaign, though Pope has started the last three matches.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford is the standout candidate to join Newcastle this summer, with the options available on the market.

Newcastle would face plenty of competition for the 23-year-old, who is likely to force a move away from Man City in order to become a number one elsewhere.
