Former Senegal international Mbaye Diagne has insisted that only Victor Osimhen has the ability to break his long-standing Turkish Süper Lig goalscoring record.
Diagne set the benchmark for the highest-scoring foreign player in a single Turkish Süper Lig season after netting 30 goals during the 2018-2019 campaign for Kasımpaşa and Galatasaray.
He scored 20 goals in 17 appearances for Kasımpaşa in the first half of the season before adding another 10 goals in 12 matches following his move to Galatasaray midway through the campaign.
Diagne's tally of 30 goals in a single Süper Lig season by a foreign player remains unmatched.
Although prolific foreign forwards such as Alexander Sørloth (24 goals), Aaron Boupendza (22), Enner Valencia (29), Mauro Icardi (25) and Osimhen (26) have all won the Goal King award in recent years, none managed to eclipse the Senegalese striker's record.
Speaking about his record, Diagne admitted he would only be comfortable seeing Osimhen surpass the milestone.
In quotes relayed by Turkish newspaper Vatan, he said: "I’m happy, very happy. I’ve scored a lot of goals. I’m also happy to be the top scorer here.
"Nobody has broken my goal record in the Super League. They probably won’t be able to. I could only accept it if my friend Osimhem broke it, but it’s impossible for anyone else to break it.”
Paul Onuachu, who has scored 22 league goals this season, has only a slim chance of matching or breaking Diagne’s long-standing record heading into the final round of Super Lig fixtures.
