Experienced defender Zitha Kwinika has challenged his teammates to finish the season strongly, with Kaizer Chiefs having already secured third place in the Betway Premiership table.

The Naturena-based giants started the campaign on a positive note before a dip in form that saw them miss out on cup success along the way.

However, Amakhosi managed to regain consistency in the closing stages of the season and have now qualified for next season's CAF Confederation Cup.

Moreover, the team has also shown improvement compared to recent campaigns, with their points tally better than in previous seasons as they continue rebuilding under pressure to return to the top.

In the last two seasons, the Glamour Boys finished on 32 and 36 points, respectively. In fact, their better points tally was 57 points in the 2019/20 season, where they lost the league in the final day.

Now, under the guidance of co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, Chiefs are on 54 points, and if they win in their final game against Chippa United on Saturday, they will match their 2019/20 season.

Kwinika, one of the senior players in the squad, believes the club must now focus on setting higher standards ahead of next season, as they appear set to compete for major trophies.

"One wise man once said, 'It’s not how you start that matters, but how you finish'," the 32-year-old Kwinika said.

"A wiser one said, 'A good start, consistency in between will lead to a great finish'.

"Last huddle mates, let's finish strong and set better standards for the one coming."

The final match against Chippa is scheduled for 15:00 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
