Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has offered his take on the red card received by Glody Lilepo, who took off his shirt in celebration of his goal during a 1-0 league win over AmaZulu FC.

Amakhosi claimed all three points in their penultimate match of the season at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Lilepo netted the decisive goal after a one-two move with Mfundo Vilakazi. Having been shown a yellow card earlier in the match, the Congolese attacker proceeded to remove his top during his celebrations.

The Amakhosi technical team and teammates tried, in vain, to remedy the disaster with a proposed substitution, but it was too late: the goalscorer was shown his second caution and consequently sent off.

It is a scenario that means he will be unavailable for selection in the side's final fixture of 2025/26 against Chippa United at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, as well as the first competitive match of next term.

Kaze was sympathetic towards the lanky star, although he conceded that he should have known better.

"I will say that this group of players has grown so much throughout the season. They played in the CAF Confederation Cup, travelled, and now you can see that they think together," noted the Burundian in the post-match press conference.

"It is true that it was unfortunate that we had to play the last 20 minutes with a man down, but we were not really in danger as we controlled the game and defended well.

The co-coach said it was unfortunate what happened to Lilepo, saying the attacker is a player with a lot of experience and should've known better because he had already been booked in the first half.

"I understand his emotions - he scored, and a human being without emotions is not a human being. We got the three points, all is good, and we just need to concentrate on the last game against Chippa," he went on.

Amakhosi already have third spot secured and even a win on the weekend will not see them moving up, nor will a loss mean they slide down the table.
