Liverpool have sent clear message to Federico Chiesa after latest outburst - view

Just days ago, Italian reporter Mirko Di Natale said that Chiesa wanted to stay at Anfield and fight for his place under Andoni Iraola.

Since then, Liverpool have confirmed that a deal has been agreed with Osasuna to sign winger Victor Munoz, and they are continuing their pursuit of RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande.

Despite Chiesa's desire to try and make an impact at Liverpool, their transfer business suggests that Iraola only sees the Italian as a squad player.

Chiesa has only started two Premier League matches for Liverpool since his arrival from Juventus in August 2024.

The 28-year-old is low down the pecking order at Anfield, and Arne Slot's departure does not seem to have changed that.

Chiesa has done little at Liverpool to suggest that he deserves a chance to replace Mohamed Salah in his favoured right wing position.

With Italy having not qualified for the World Cup, pre-season looks massive for Chiesa if he wants to impress Iraola, and stake a claim to be in his future plans.

However, Bournemouth’s starting line‑ups under Iraola were among the youngest in the Premier League, with the manager consistently handing opportunities to emerging players rather than turning to experienced heads.

On that basis, 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha would also be preferred to Chiesa, whilst the teenager is one of the club's brightest young prospects.

Chiesa's future at Liverpool looks bleak, and sources told Football Insider that Ngumoha is set to remain on Merseyside despite being linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

Speaking to Gazetta dello Sport earlier this month, Chiesa confirmed that playing football is the most important thing for him.

Chiesa said: "I want to play and if I don’t find continuity in the Premier League I’ll need to find it elsewhere.

"This season just gone, I got next to no minutes. I’ll go to the U.S. for pre-season then I’ll talk to the club and Iraola and we’ll see.”

Chiesa has been linked with a move back to Italy whilst at Liverpool, and that should be a move which the forward should now seriously be considering.
