Lucas Bergvall tipped to stay at Tottenham as ex-scout makes 'very dangerous' claim
Lucas Bergvall could stay at Tottenham this summer despite recent reports claiming that he has asked to leave the club.
The 20-year-old struggled for game time towards the end of last season as Spurs avoided relegation under Roberto De Zerbi.
Spurs boss De Zerbi is keen to add numerous midfielders to his ranks this summer, meaning Bergvall could slip even further down the pecking order.
Widespread reports have claimed that he is exploring options away from the club, with numerous Premier League sides linked to his services.
Despite those rumours, former Spurs senior scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that he expects Bergvall to stay at the club.
They have also been urged to keep hold of him due to a lack of realistic options who would improve De Zerbi's squad more than the 20-year-old.
Bergvall registered one goal and four assists in 33 appearances last season, but featured for just 10 minutes off the bench across Spurs' final four games of the campaign.
He played over 200 fewer league minutes than in the 2024-25 season, but could still stay beyond this summer as a realistic move away is unlikely to materialise.
"I don't know too many Premier League sides where, for one, they would want him, and two, where he'd want to go," Brown exclusively told Football Insider.
"Tottenham have got some replacing to do and I think Bergvall will end up staying. But I always used to think at the end of any season, you talk to whoever you like and they will say, 'we need three players and four players will be gone,' but if 20 clubs need three players, that's 60 players.
"There aren't 60 players good enough to come into the Premier League, so you’re fighting a losing battle for a start. When you start raising that number to five or six players, I think you might be treading very dangerous ground."
Bergvall's future is unlikely to be sorted out imminently as he represents Sweden at his first World Cup.
Several top flight sides have registered their interest in his services, with Nottingham Forest the most recent club to join the race to sign him.
Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Tottenham won't be pressured into selling Bergvall this summer, and are prepared to hold out for a sizeable fee.
Chelsea and Aston Villa have also been linked in recent months, but it remains to be seen if he would be in line for more game time at either club.
