While Kaizer Chiefs were never serious contenders for the league title last season, there was a feeling that their campaign could have taken on a different complexion had they avoided a costly run of three consecutive defeats.
Despite those setbacks, Amakhosi showed enough resilience and consistency to finish third and secure qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup.

Speaking to the media following the launch of the Toyota Cup at Naturena on Tuesday, former Chiefs midfielder Mandla "Bullet" Masango attributed the team's improvement to the players' determination and the continuity within the squad.
Masango believes the time spent together as a group has allowed the players to develop stronger combinations and a better understanding on the pitch, underlining the importance of patience when building a competitive team.

"I think it's the willpower of the players as well as the amount of time they spent together. Building a team is a process." Masango observed.
"It's not a one-season or a short-term period. You need a long-term period. I think they have been playing together for quite some time so that's why they were able to get those combinations."
