Mbekezeli Mbokazi could now feature in the 2026 Major League Soccer All-Star Game, which is expected to include some of the biggest names playing in America.

Chicago Fire FC announced that Mbokazi is one of four players in contention to make the MLS All-Star team.

The South African defender could make the 26-man MLS All-Star squad if he receives a significant number of votes.

The MLS All-Star team will take on Liga MX’s All-Star squad on 29 July in Charlotte.

MLS stars such as Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Thomas Müller, and Son Heung-min are widely expected to receive a large number of votes from fans.

Messi previously earned selection in 2024 and 2025, but the Argentina captain did not feature in those matches, having been injured in 2024, while citing fatigue in 2025.

Fans can vote for Mbokazi on the MLS official website.

The South African defender recently spoke during a press conference for his club, Chicago Fire about the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

According to Central Fox, the Bafana centre-back said: "Mexico needs to know that this won't be an easy match," said the former Orlando Pirates defender.

"It's going to be a tough and complicated game.

"We're not just playing for the sake of participating."

Bafana and Mexico have previously met only twice, including in the 2010 curtain-raiser, which ended 1-1.

Interestingly, Mexico's scorer in that game was Rafael Marquez, who is now the assistant coach of the national team.

It has already been confirmed that Marquez will take over as Mexico head coach after the World Cup.

The other meeting between the sides came at the Gold Cup in 2005, with Bafana winning 2-1.
