Reports in Italy claim that Milan are now back in contact with Al-Ahli head coach Matthias Jaissle, despite the fact that Ralf Rangnick appears inclined to turn down the offer to become the new Rossoneri technical director.
Milan are still without a senior management team in San Siro following the dismissals of head coach Massimiliano Allegri, sporting director Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and CEO Giorgio Furlani the day after the 2025-26 season ended.
Reports over the last fortnight have pointed towards the potential appointment of Rangnick as the new technical director in San Siro, however, that plan hit a major hurdle on Friday, as the German has reportedly grown tired of waiting for Milan to make their final decision and now appears inclined to continue in his current role as head coach of the Austria national team.
It is understood that Rangnick wanted confirmation from Milan before the start of the World Cup, which kicked off on Thursday night, and that has not yet arrived.
This could also complicate Milan’s search for a new head coach, as Oliver Glasner, who has also been strongly linked with a move to San Siro, is a long-term disciple of Rangnick and it remains to be seen whether the former Crystal Palace coach will still be willing to join in these new circumstances.
However, according to updates from Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto, the Rossoneri have re-established contact with Al-Ahli head coach Jaissle, a coach who was originally recommended by Rangnick according to reports in May.
There had been concerns that the 38-year-old winner of the Asian Champions League would be too expensive for Milan, given that Al-Ahli were seeking around €6m in compensation to part ways with their head coach.
However, Friday’s updates claim that Milan have since had another face-to-face meeting with Jaissle in an attempt to come to a potential agreement to become the new leader of Milan.
Nothing has been definitively ruled out for Glasner at this stage, and there are several other names that have been linked with the Rossoneri job as well, including Ruben Amorim, Arne Slot and Mauricio Pochettino.
