Croatia legend Davor Suker reveals Milan midfielder Luka Modric will return to Real Madrid this summer: ‘Let’s see what happens after the World Cup…’
Croatia international Modric will return to Real Madrid after just one season at Milan, according to the midfielder’s compatriot Suker, a former striker for the La Liga giants.
Talking to Radio Marca on Wednesday, Suker said: “Now you’ll ask me whether he’ll continue at Milan or return to Madrid. I think something will happen with Real Madrid.
“Surely, he will return, but I don’t know how. Let’s wait for the end of the World Cup and see what happens.”
Modric signed a one-year deal with Milan last summer, and the agreement with the Rossoneri included an option to extend for a further campaign.
Milan are technically ready to activate their option but only if Modric agrees to remain at San Siro for one more season.
However, following Milan’s failure to qualify for the Champions League and Massimiliano Allegri’s sacking, the latest rumours suggest that Modric will retire at the end of the season.
Therefore, Suker was asked whether Modric would return to Real Madrid as a member of the club’s management or as a member of José Mourinho’s backroom staff.
The ex-Croatia international, however, was reluctant to release further details: “I can’t say more, I can’t say more. Leave something a bit in the air; I can’t say it all,” he concluded.
Modric scored two goals and provided three assists in 37 appearances with Milan in 2025-26.
