Egyptian club Al Ahly appointed Moroccan coach Houcine Ammouta as head coach of its first team on a two-season contract, the Cairo club said Monday.
The decision was approved during a board meeting chaired by Mahmoud El Khatib as part of a wider restructuring of the club’s football department ahead of the new season.
Al Ahly said the board also approved a new organizational plan presented by vice-president Yassin Mansour and board member Sayed Abdelhafiz, who oversees the football file.
Ammouta succeeds Danish coach Jess Thorup and is expected to take charge in the coming days as Al Ahly prepare for domestic and African competitions.
The Moroccan coach brings experience from Wydad Casablanca, the Jordan national team and several Arab and continental competitions, with Al Ahly banking on his record to keep the club at the top of African football.
