Spurs have made a move to sign Tonali this summer…

Tonali is exploring options after Newcastle failed to get European football. And although Spurs are in the same position, the Italian midfielder is open to a move to north London.
Roberto De Zerbi is driving a move, with talks already under way on the player side.
Newcastle's negotiating position has been strengthened following the £70million sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, but a Tonali sale will be sanctioned at the right price even though the Magpies would ideally like to keep him.
Sources say Newcastle are hoping for at least £85million fixed and a total package approaching £100million.
Spurs' board want to make a statement signing as they look to equip De Zerbi with a squad capable of competing for a Champions League spot.
Arsenal and Manchester City have also made enquiries on Tonali, while Manchester United have considered the 26-year-old, but are put off by the overall cost of the deal and would only reconsider if price, wage or agent commissions drop.
Tonali joined Newcastle United from Milan in 2023 and has gone on to make 110 appearances scoring 10 goals.
Tonali would love to return to Italy, and even rejoin his former club Milan, but the finances required make a switch to Serie A very unlikely.
Although Newcastle need sales this summer, the plan is also to back Eddie Howe and reinvest some of the money brought in.
Twenty-year-old goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen has already joined from Reims for £18.5million, and Newcastle also want to add James Trafford from Manchester City.
Advanced talks are also ongoing with Osasuna for Victor Munoz. Newcastle are confident on agreeing a package for a player who would effectively replace Gordon.
And Newcastle are expected to add a full-back, which will become even more of a priority if Lewis Hall or Tino Livramento depart. The former is on Manchester United's radar, while Livramento, who sadly picked up a calf injury and will miss the World Cup, is appreciated by Manchester City and Arsenal.
Club Brugge’s Joaquin Seys and Toulouse’s Dayann Methalie were both explored in January, while Fulham's Antonee Robinson is another name discussed.
And should Tonali leave, another midfielder will be added. Monaco's Lamine Camara is one of the leading targets. Newcastle could also enter the race for Alex Scott, but face heavy competition from other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Spurs, Manchester United and Liverpool. Bournemouth are still hoping Scott signs a new deal with talks to move forward in the coming weeks.
